Scientific Focus

The research emphasis of the Institute for Cell Biology is on interaction mechanisms between cells and the extracellular matrix, with regards to clinical challenges. Currently, the focus is on projects dealing with the regulation of mesenchymal stem cells for tissue regeneration. In particular, the influence of physical and chemical properties of biomaterials on the architecture, differentiation and proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells and osteoblasts is examined. In this context, we are also interested in the role of mechanical forces on the biology of cells.

Recently, the plasma biomedicine has become a promising new area of research, also for our group. Not only plasma-functionalized surfaces are of great interest, but also the impact of atmospheric pressure plasma on the physiology of cells is of increasing relevance.
